Lynn Carlisle DDS

Lynn Carlisle, DDS is the publisher, editor, writer and webmaster of In a Spirit of Caring.

Merit Badges

Lynn Carlisle practiced dentistry in Ft Collins, Colorado from 1968-2005. His practice had an emphasis on preventive/wellness approaches and restorative dentistry.

His frustration with his relationships with his patients and team members led to a life-long interest in communication and helping relationships. This search led him to L.D. Pankey, DDS, Bob Barkley, DDS, Carl Rogers, PhD, and Art Combs, PhD and their work.

He applied their work to his dental practice and then was a pioneer in relationship-based dentistry.

He is the author of the highly acclaimed books "In a Spirit of Caring" and "In a Spirit of Caring Revisited" and is the editor and publisher of the web site "In a Spirit of Caring". The books and web site are dedicated to helping dentists, dental consultants, and team members develop exceptional doctor-patient-client relationships.

He has been on the board of the L.D. Pankey Institute, been president of the Bob Barkley Foundation and was a associate member of the Center for the Studies of the Person where he studied psychology with Carl Rogers PhD and his associates. He is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry.

After over 100,000 patient encounters and 40 years of practice, he retired from the clinical practice of dentistry in 2006 and moved to Carbondale, Colorado where he continues to write, think, consult, enjoy life and adapt to his latest transition. This transition has provided him with an expanded perspective that only leaving the clinical practice of dentistry could provide.

Why this web site?

Lynn has been a information maven all his life - Kirsten, his wife, calls him a pack rat. He has kept all of the information he has gathered over his dental career in boxes in his basement.

Many of these are pure gold including many classic articles by the dental masters.

Then along came the world wide web. Now, instead of having this treasure trove of information in boxes (that Kirsten complained of everytime they moved), it is published on the this web site In a Spirit of Caring.

Add current articles by the best dental teachers on the planet and there is a wonderful mix of classic and current thinking on the people part of dentistry.

He developed the In a Spirit of Caring web site:

  • to help ISOC members prosper by developing exceptional dentist-team-patient/client relationships,
  • to pass on the legacy of health-centered and relationship-based dentistry,
  • to help develop leaders in these challenging times
  • to provide the leading edge thinking on the people part of dentistry
  • to provide a forum for dentists practicing h/c or r/b dentistry
  • to be a leading voice in the future of this way of practicing.
