Good news from The Pankey Institute

Printer-Friendly Format

Rumors have been circulating that the Pankey Institute is struggling with their current transition with "The Philosophy" and the recession. Bill Lockard has good news.

I asked Bill Lockard for his opinion on what is going on at Pankey. Bill is a long time friend and mentor of mine. He lives and practiced dentistry in Oklahoma City, OK where Jim Kessler, the new Director of Education at Pankey taught at the OU School of Dentistry.

My opinion is that Bill is the best spokesman for the Pankey philosophy I know. He is the author of "The Exceptional Dental Practice". A bell ringing review of Bill Lockard's new book The Exceptional Dental Practice, Why Good Enough Isnt Good Enough.

Bill was one of the original members of the cadre when the Pankey Institute was formed in the early 1970's. He has continued to be one of the leaders at the Pankey Institute. Here is Bill's reply to my question on how Pankey is doing and what is happening with the Pankey philosophy:

Lynn,

Jim Kessler is an excellent choice to replace Irwin Becker. He is technically excellent and is a caring person who has practiced the philosophy - not knowing that he was doing so. He is now learning to speak it.

He also is supported by some outstanding Lead Faculty.

He was one of my students at OU when I was a clinical instructor.

The Institute is undergoing a rebirth combining technical excellence with LD's philosophy.

I along with Jay Anderson (chairman) and several dedicated people are influencing the input of the philosophy into each course and technical procedure. The philosophy is still the core for the Institute.

There are a few who can teach the philosophy in word and behavior. Hopefully we can help others.

Bill

2/9/12 - Jim Kessler is going back to Oklahoma. He says he will split his time between Pankey and Oklahoma - it won't work, split allegiances, energies and focuses never do. He didn't last a year.

Pankey courses for 2012 are out - no philosophy

Lynn

Lynn:

I want to concur with Bill Lockard's comments. I have the absolute privilege of serving with Bill and Jay on "The Philosophy Committee." There has been much effort into seeing that the Philosophy as articulated by L.D. Pankey will carried forward at the Institute. Jim Kessler is a wonderful choice for Exectuvie Director. A CLASS guy with passion for that mission!!
