How Faith can Heal

Printer-Friendly Format

When I wrote In a Spirit of Caring in the early 1990's anyone (including me) that discussed the mind/body connection in medicine or dentistry was viewed as belonging on the lunatic fringe. Now TIME magazine is devoting an excellent special issue to the topic.

TIME magazine has an excellent mind/body special issue on how faith can heal. It is the February 23, 2009 issue.

The in depth, "Biology of Belief" article is the best of the articles.

I wish it had come out when I was finishing In a Spirit of Caring Revisited. It has some excellent references. When I wrote the first edition, there were only a few studies on the mind/body connection.

Now TIME reports that there have been 6,000 articles since 2000.

When I wrote In a Spirit of Caring in the early 1990's anyone (including me) that discussed the mind/body connection in medicine or dentistry was viewed as belonging on the lunatic fringe.

While TIME is not the New England Journal of Medicine, it is important from a trend watching perspective that TIME chose to devote a special issue to the topic.

I think you will find it interesting/fascinating reading.
