New book In a Spirit of Caring Revisited is ready
Lynn D Carlisle DDS
The new In a Spirit of Caring Revisited is ready! It is a book for dentists, team members and dental consultants to help them provide exceptional care for their dental patients and clients. The current crisis and recession is leading people to rediscover the importance of altruism and caring. This is what In a Spirit of Caring Revisited is all about.
I have just finished writing a new version of my book In a Spirit of Caring. It is titled In a Spirit of Caring Revisited. Why the new book? Its perennial wisdom about caring and building exceptional doctor-patient relationships is needed more in these troubled, challenging times than when it was first published. After 15 years, I think a new version with comments and reflections by me is appropriate and would update the book into the 21st century. (ISOC members, to access the chapters, go to: In a Spirit of Caring Revisited) Others like trendwatching.com share this belief: Challenging times see people craving care, empathy, sympathy and generosity. Now, with a full-blown recession having set in, expect to hear even more about caring, as that's what consumers and citizens will demand from (doctors) governments and organizations: someone to take care of their jobs, their savings, their fellow citizens (and themselves).
Its perennial wisdom about caring is needed more in these troubled, challenging times than when it was published.

From the In a Spirit of Caring Revisited introduction: The new version will help new readers discover the timeless truths about understanding and finding meaning in caring doctor-patient relationships explored in the book. Previous readers will re-discover an old friend. It will help new generations of dentists discover the relationship-based way of practicing (and re-affirm for previous relationship-based generations). There are new generations (since the book was published in 1994) of dentists looking for a personally and professionally fulfilling way of practicing. 10% of dentists have an aptitude and interest to practice relationship-based dentistry. This new edition will help new generations decide if a relationship-based way of practicing is for them. Patients will aggressively seek out health care practitioners who manifest caring doctor-patient relationships. In a Spirit of Caring Revisited will help you be one of these practitioners. The e-book is free to current ISOC members. Non-members can join ISOC for $49.00 per quarter to access the book. Why choose to create an e-book instead of a print book? This e-book is much more dynamic and interactive than print. Relevant articles or resources can be inserted in the text. You as the reader, can immediately access these and expand your knowledge. You can also go to the discussion forum to comment or ask questions on what is in the e-book. In this way, you can read many of the over 500 articles on the ISOC web site. e-books use fewer natural resources - if not printed. I can also change, add to, edit and correct the text. I probably will not do much of this. It is much quicker and less expensive to do an e-book. The print publishing process of a book takes forever. The book will be free to ISOC members. The cost for the last print copies of In a Spirit of Caring was $100.00. I don't know what the market is for the In a Spirit of Caring Revisited book. An e-book, eliminates trying to predict the market. Author's note: It is cumbersome and time consuming to print an e-book. I think this negative is outweighed by an e-book's advantages. I recommend that you either read it online or print the chapters a few at a time. I have tried to format the chapters to make this printing convenient (click on "Printer Friendly Version" at the start of each chapter to print on your printer). I printed the whole e-book in about a half an hour. (Research has shown that it is 25% faster to read print than online material.) You can use a three hole punch and place it in a notebook to carry with you and read.
