Five *must read dental books on Tier IV relationship-based or health-centered dentistry. *AKA desert island books
Lynn D Carlisle DDS
Very few books have been written for relationship-based/health-centered dentists. Fortunately, these five cover the spectrum and are invaluable resources for information and inspiration. Bob Frazer is thinking about writing a book; please encourage him to do so. E-mail Bob at bob@frazeronline.com • Barkley, Robert, Successful Preventive Dental Practice, Macomb Illinois: 1972. Barkley's revolutionary book that created a paradigm shift in dentistry. Out of Print. Available through the ADA Library and some dental school libraries. Worth the trouble to find. • Pankey and Davis, A Philosophy of the Practice of Dentistry, Medical College Press, 1985. The book that presents L.D. Pankey's landmark work in integrating "the philosophy" into a dental practice. I am continually awed by the depth and completeness of L.D. 's work. This book should be on every dentist's bookshelf after he has read and reread it. It is a constant source of wisdom and inspiration. Mosby, 1989. Practicing in the relationship-based or health-centered way is meaningless if you don't have it on the shelf technically. Pete Dawson's book is invaluable in helping you become adept at complete dentistry. go to the Pankey book store:

• Carlisle, Lynn, In A Spirit of Caring Revisited, Understanding and finding meaning in the doctor/patient relationship in the 21st century, 2011- an e-book. In a Spirit of Caring Revisited is the sourcebook for relationship-based dental practices and those dentists, team members and consultants who want to improve their ability to communicate with their dental patients and clients. In a Spirit of Caring Revisited is ready! Schuster, Mike, The Science of Creating Wealth, Schuster's Performance Coach, 2008. Most dentists struggle with creating wealth. Even those with high incomes have this struggle. They have expensive cars, live in the best part of town, kids in the right schools, boy toys and girl toys, go to exotic places, often they have two of everything and are working on three - but they do not have wealth. Mike Schuster knows these dentists well. His passion in life for 30 years has been in helping dentists get control of time and money. His Schuster Center for Professional Development is the pre-eminent business school for dentists. He has worked with over 3,500 dentists one on one to help them get control of time and money. Now he has written a book to help dentists create wealth instead of just high income.
