Emotional Intelligence - (EQ) - Why it can matter more than IQ.
Daniel Goleman
Printer-Friendly Format

Goleman, Daniel, Emotional Intelligence, Bantam, 1995. This book has become a behavioral classic. A new look at the road to success.

Important for dentists who are on the road to personal and professional success and fulfillment. Goleman is a journalist for the New York Times where he covers the fields of behavioral and brain science.

Buckminster Fuller stated that it takes 30-40 years for an idea to be accepted into the mainstream. In the 1960's and 1970's, L.D. Pankey and Bob Barkley talked about the importance of becoming adept at behavioral or relational skills to be successful in dentistry. Carl Rogers, Art Combs and others did the same in psychology.

But mainstream dentistry, government, psychology, healthcare, education and business ignored the importance of EQ.

Goleman as a journalist summarizes the appled behavioral research 30 - 40 years after the first research was done. In doing so, he proves Fuller's statement and legitimizes EQ's importance to success and fulfillment.

Goleman has also written book on Primal Leadership, Ecological Intelligence and Social Intelligence: The New Science of Human Relationships.
